Anyone who know me, knows I love ancient history, especially Egyptian and Roman history. I've been collecting ancient coins for years but whenever I made a piece of jewelry with one I had two problems: 1. I couldn't part with the coin! 2. It looked lackluster, dull and colorless in the piece. So, that was that.
I recently came across someancient glass and I'm really having fun with it. After the glass has been buried for thousands of years it takes on a patina; colors from the chemical reaction that takes place while in the earth. Once upon a time this glass was in the form of bottles, jars, cups, vase, perfume containers. The glass has often been re-cut in modern times, giving it a new shape but often retaining the lip of the ancient jar or the crust and patina acquired over the passing centuries.
The glass came with a written guarantee of authenticity.
This glass has life, color and light and is turning into some interesting new pieces. I started with a ring and am finishing a necklace and some earrings. The possibilities are endless and I love the idea that it is a piece of ancient times and that makes the new jewelry so unique!
I'll be adding more ancient glass pieces very soon!

I took silversmithing as part of my BFA. It was the hardest class in my 4 fours. I truly respect jewelry makers and designers. Your pieces are beautiful!
I love this idea of history embedded in bling you can wear! More please!
